Ten of Dallas' Best French Fries

They're in the background, but they shouldn't be.
Hopdoddy
At Hopdoddy, the excellence of the fries isn't just about special seasoning or a complicated cooking method -- everything starts with the potato. A Kennebec potato, to be precise. Once shunned by restaurants because of their short shelf life, Kennebec potatoes have a relatively low water content that creates the textures that make a perfect French fry. If you're really feeling fancy, take it up a notch and order the truffle fries, which are the Kennebec fries tossed in pungent truffle oil and herbs.

Maple & Motor
Jack Perkins' sparkling personality isn't the only reason to head to Maple & Motor. This joint is consistently ranked as one of the best in the city, and the fries can certainly stand up to the burgers. If my grandma had a beard and a bad attitude, these would be her fries. Ever the accommodating burger slingers, you can also get your fries jazzed up with chili and cheese for a few bucks extra at Maple & Motor.

Would you look at those fries, dude?
Goodfriend
As good as the guys at Goodfriend are with a flat-top grill and ground beef, their deep-frying skills aren't anything to ignore. Fresh-cut waffle fries aren't exactly easy to find, and these are some of the best. They're also served in a massive bowl, and your waitress is happy to bring plenty of ketchup or ranch that somehow manages to improve on their version of potato perfection.

Katy Trail Ice House has really fresh, non-greasy old timey, skin on fries.  Hopdotty's, at least at Preston Center, have crispy low grease ones with a tasty chili con queso dipping sauce.

I'm with @p_mallett, Scotch and Sausage's fries were horrible.  Our first order was basically fried bits from the bottom of the fryer.  I had read their fries were to die for so went to the manager and asked him to do better.  He agreed and happily replaced our fried bits with larger over-fried french fries.  Not sure they will get a 3rd chance.

I like the English style fish & chips at Aw Shucks. Great dipped in their excellent tarter sauce.

Maybe I was there on an off day but I was excited to try Scotch and Sausage's fries, and I found them to be pretty terrible.  Not crispy, not fluffy inside, I didn't finish them.  Not to mention they only give you a few fries in a regular order.

Off Site Kitchen, you gotta be kidding!  They'd have better fries if they went over to Restaurant Depot and got a case frozen fries.

That's the problem. You were too excited over a potato.

@p_mallett I'm becoming convinced the DO isn't really doing much more than going through a list of 'cool' places without any actual factual or qualitative basis to make pronouncements on which places to put on these 'best whatever' lists.
