Staples Inc. (Nasdaq: SPLS), the world's largest supplier of office products and services, is investigating a possible security breach involving its customer credit-card data.

According to a report by Bloomberg, the Framingham, Mass.-based company is already assuring customers that they are protected and not responsible for any fraudulent activity, should its investigation pinpoint any criminal activity.

"If Staples discovers an issue, it is important to note that customers are not responsible for any fraudulent activity on their credit cards that is reported on a timely basis," Staples spokesman Mark Cautela wrote to Bloomberg in an email.
