DALLAS (KRLD) – Comedian Harry Shearer is in North Texas today to receive the Ernie Kovacs Award at The Video Association of Dallas’ VideoFest tonight.

For the past two decades, Shearer has enjoyed enormous success on “The Simpsons,” where he plays a stable of characters: most notably Mr. Burns, Smithers, and insufferable neighbor Ned Flanders.

Shearer is also known for his collaborations with film director Christopher Guest and his roles in “This is Spinal Tap”, “A Mighty Wind” and “For your Consideration.”

He stopped by the CBS Radio Tower and spoke with KRLD’s Emily Trube in the 1080 AM studio about his current projects and what he learned about humor and tragedy in New Orleans after Katrina and how it relates to the Ebola situation in Dallas.

Shearer also talks about his new TV comedy-drama, six-part series based on real-life recordings from President Nixon’s Oval Office co-written with Stanley Kutler.

The Ernie Kovacs Award presentation will take place at the Angelika Film Center at Mockingbird Station tonight at 7:00 p.m.
