Blotter: Man arrested after interfering with police

A 23-year-old man was arrested at 2 a.m. Monday near the 100 block of Fry Street and spent rest of the morning in jail after interfering with a police investigation, according to police reports.

According to reports, an officer and his partner were on foot patrol on Fry Street when the man, described as “obviously intoxicated,” approached the officers with his hands in the air, screaming, “Hands up, don’t shoot!”

The intoxicated man started getting too close for comfort, interfering with the officers’ investigation.

A few minutes later, officers stopped him and found unidentified pills in his possession, according to reports.

He was charged with evading arrest, public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance.

3000 block of Weston Drive — Denton police were dispatched after receiving information about a suicidal 19-year-old woman texting her boyfriend, threatening to kill herself, shortly after 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

According to a police report, an officer contacted the boyfriend who stated he had a verbal altercation with his girlfriend, who left and later sent a text saying he would be better off without her. The woman, according to the boyfriend, has a history of depression and contemplation of suicide.

Police were unable to locate the woman.

1200 block of North Interstate 35E — A 20-year-old man was arrested shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday for allegedly assaulting an elderly woman and a child.

Officers arrived on scene to investigate when they spotted the suspect fleeing on foot.

After a brief chase, he was detained and charged with assault causing bodily injury/family violence, injury to a child/elderly with intent to cause bodily injury and possession of drug paraphernalia.
