The dog days of summer showed up Friday as Denton police filed several reports of assault and family violence, booking two men into the city jail on assault charges and beginning an investigation into another complaint.

200 block of Inman Street — An apartment security guard called Denton police at about 1:05 a.m. Friday to report that a 21-year-old man was acting crazy and threatening to cut people. He reported that he was making his rounds when he observed the man arguing with another man near a parking lot.

The guard observed the man threatening the other man, taking out a knife and breaking a light. When the guard went up to the pair, the man ran off. He and another security guard found the man near a pool and called police.

An officer went to the apartment to interview the man’s roommate, according to a police report. The roommate said he had just moved into the complex a week ago and was having problems with the man being aggressive and disruptive. That night was first time the man had displayed a weapon, the roommate said, adding that he feared for his safety, according to the report.

Police arrested the man and booked him into the city jail on charges of public intoxication and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon-family violence.

3800 block of Stuart Road — A 23-year-old Denton woman called police at about 9:24 a.m. Friday to report that her boyfriend assaulted her and left the apartment. The officer noted in a police report that the woman had visible, minor injuries. An investigation is continuing.

600 block of Pierce Street — Police booked a 51-year-old man at about 11 p.m. Friday on a charge of assault causing bodily injury-family violence after responding to a domestic disturbance call.
