MAY PERMITS TO DRILL
The Commission issued a total of 2,306 original drilling permits in May 2011 compared to 1,485 in May 2010. The May total included 2,093 permits to drill new oil and gas wells, 36 to re-enter existing well bores, and 177 for re-completions. Permits issued in May 2011 included 652 oil, 236 gas, 1,233 oil and gas, 74 injection, zero service and 111 other permits.
APRIL CRUDE OIL PRODUCTION
Texas preliminary April 2011 crude oil production averaged 958,283 barrels daily, up from the 932,966 barrels daily average of April 2010.
The preliminary Texas crude oil production figure for April 2011 is 28,748,479 barrels, up from 27,988,991 barrels reported during April 2010.
MAY OIL AND GAS COMPLETIONS
In May 2011, operators reported 353 oil, 152 gas, 36 injection and one other completion compared to 461 oil, 386 gas, 47 injection and zero other completions during May 2010.
Total well completions for 2011 year to date are 3,575 down from 4,433 recorded during the same period in 2010.
Operators reported 516 holes plugged and one dry hole in May 2011 compared to 285 holes plugged and one dry hole in May 2010.
APRIL NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION
Texas oil and gas wells produced 542,087,609 Mcf (thousand cubic feet) of gas based upon preliminary production figures for April 2011 down from the April 2010 preliminary gas production total of 563,851,518 Mcf.
Texas production in April 2011 came from 143,097 oil wells and 93,806 gas wells.
