PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – 93-7 The Fan Steelers insider and Post-Gazette reporter Ed Bouchette joined “The Fan Morning Show” Tuesday to discuss a sharp drop in attendance for Monday night’s win over the Texans.
Heinz Field was 8,675 short of capacity for the Steelers’ 30-23 win last night, but is it a big deal?
“Yeah, I think it is,” Bouchette said. “I’ve been covering this team too long. I’m used to, when they’re going good, the fans just turning out and not sitting at home, 9,000 no-shows for your third home game – I mean, you can say it was a night game, but I remember when night games were a pretty big deal, especially Monday night games were a pretty big deal in Pittsburgh.”
Bouchette said he’s confident the team will continue to sell out. However, being that short of capacity for only the third home game doesn’t make for a great atmosphere.
“It just shows a lethargy, if you will, among the fan base, at least for showing up at games. As far as commenting and everything else, they’re still passionate. But yeah, I think that’s a potential problem, I really do. Not that they’re not going to sell tickets. They’re going to sell out forever because of the seat licenses people have invested [in]. It’s not a good atmosphere when you have almost 10,000 no-shows for your third game.”
Bouchette usually joins “The Fan Morning Show” on Mondays after Steelers games at 8 a.m.
