The youngest D-FW contestant on NBC’s The Voice made her mark on the battle rounds on Tuesday night. Fifteen-year-old Reagan James, from Burleson, performed Lorde’s breakout hit, “Team,” against her young competitor, 16-year old Kensington Moore.
James breezed through the indie track, which mirrored her own alluring style. James' deep, sultry chords and on-stage confidence made her the better of the two performers. (And we're being kind: Another blog called James' performance against her competitor "a massacre." Celebrity coach Gwen Stefani reminded James that she and Pharrell Williams wanted James during the blind auditions, and they were still, um, ticked that Blake Shelton won her.
Stefani, Williams and Shelton praised her performance, and Shelton picked James as the winner.
“She is a true star and she’s ready for this right now,” Shelton said.
Now it’s time for the knockout rounds — a do-or-die style segment where all remaining contestants go head to head, regardless of his or her team, to fight for a spot on the live shows. Contestants from D-FW that will appear in upcoming knockout rounds are Luke Wade — an early favorite — plus Taylor Phelan, Craig Wayne Boyd and James.
