Police say 33-year-old man ran drug enterprise out of Deep Ellum apartment

A 33-year-old man ran a cocaine dealing enterprise out of his Deep Ellum apartment, police say.

Walter Gray was arrested Monday during a traffic stop and charged with manual delivery of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. A search of his apartment in the 3400 block of Main Street revealed cocaine, cash, syringes, a vial of unidentified liquid, digital scales, a loaded pistol, unidentified pills, alprazolam (Xanax), marijuana and other drug paraphernalia.

Detectives got a tip that Gray was a drug dealer, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. Officers conducted surveillance on Gray’s home and saw that he had security cameras posted. Detectives said they saw frequent foot traffic in and out of the apartment.

Police followed Gray after he left his apartment and pulled him over for several traffic violations. They also found out his driver license was expired. Inside Gray’s car, officers found marijuana and cocaine.

Gray had $4,560 in cash in his pocket when they arrested him, police said. The affidavit states that Gray tried to deny living in Deep Ellum, and then declined to speak to detectives further once they told him they knew he wasn’t being truthful.

The cocaine weighed 142.5 grams. The marijuana was about 107 grams. Police found another $594 in cash at Gray’s apartment.

Gray is in Dallas County jail in lieu of $6,000 bail. He has no prior felony convictions, but has been arrested numerous times in Dallas County only to have almost all the charges later dismissed.
