When professor Rawlslyn Francis got the call her first thought was "Really?!" (As an English professor, she notes that that though came "with a question mark and exclamation mark.")

On the phone was Jill Johnson, Florida State College's director of communication, telling Francis she and a colleague appeared on a list of the nation's top student-rated professors from website Rate My Professor.

The site, which allows students to give tips to other students on their experience with professors, released its ranking of the top 25 rated professors in the country, with both Rawlslyn Francis at No. 24 and Chad Kuyper at No. 2.

The highest rated professor list looks at more than 1.4 million professors to see how they ranked in the categories of clarity and helpfulness. (The top spot was claimed by Pat Fitzsimmons, a mathematics professor at at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce.)

Kuyper teaches public speaking and has an quality score of 5.0 — the top score on Rate My Professor's 1-5 scale — based on 48 ratings.

Typical feedback:

"Show up, pay attention, DO NOT FALL ASLEEP IN HIS CLASS!!! I don't understand how anyone could have. He is engaging, hilarious, and really takes the fear factor out of speaking."

"Of course I'm very, very flattered," Kuyper said, "But I more monitor it to ensure nothing that is going to impair my job is on the site."

He's not registered with the site and said he only checks it after he's submitted grades. "Sometimes people will say horrible, untrue things because of a grade," he said.

To him, the surveys written in-house at the school mean the most because they go directly to him. "I always tell my students those are the ones I take the most to heart," he said.
