Three Houston restaurants — Da Marco, The Pass & Provisions and Underbelly — were chosen by Food & Wine magazine for its Best Dishes in Texas list.
The magazine asked a chef, a barbecue expert and a hotelier to choose their favorite dishes from across the state. Da Marco's porterhouse for two, The Pass & Provisions' brandade and Underbelly's mesquite-smoked roast pork were all selected for the list.
Wine Enthusiast magazine counted The Pass & Provisions and Underbelly among its list of America's 100 Best Wine Restaurants in June. The restaurants also took spots on Thrillist's 33 Best New Restaurants in America 2013 list.
In April, Food & Wine named Justin Yu of Oxheart a best new chef in the U.S., praising the way his vegetable dishes in particular stand out in a city that loves its meat.
Houston-area restaurants have been doing well when it comes to food rankings. Houston's Barry's Pizza made it onto Pizza Today's list of the 2014 Hot 100 Independent Pizzerias. Masraff's and Peli Peli were both named on OpenTable's Top 100 American Fare Restaurants list. Texas Monthly's 2014 list of the best new restaurants in the state ranked Osteria Mazzantini at No. 3. My Table also recently named the 2014 Houston Culinary Award winners.
