Description

The Cinephiliacs is a podcast exploring the past and future of cinephelia. Film critic Peter Labuza has interviewed critics, programmers, academics, filmmakers, and more about their relationship to film and film culture. Additionally, each guest will bring in a particular favorite film and discuss it with Labuza. Indiewire declares, "If you want to hear film critics talk at length about their craft, there are few better places on the Internet" and Keyframe Daily has called it "Exhibit A" for the future of film culture

Among the Most Unique Film Podcasts Out There

Finding a movie podcast nowadays is extremely easy -- maybe *too* easy. Most (even the best) follow the same format and tend to discuss the same things, but The Cinephiliacs stands out for being about the watchers themselves. A whole different beast, which is what makes this a compulsively listenable (and relistenable) show; through the discussions, you even come to learn a thing or two about how to hone your own critical skills.

It's very good

The Cinephiliacs is a very good podcast that should be enjoyable to anyone who is a cinephile or anyone interested is criticism/analysis. The show is well structured, the host is competent and the guest are interesting. The audio quality could be improved. Overall a very good show. I will continue to listen to and I hope it gets better.

Great Approach

As a longtime follower of Peter Labuza's Twitter, I am shamefully late on catching up with his podcast, The Cinephiliacs. Tardiness aside, I've greatly enjoyed avidly listening over the past few weeks. Cleverly designed as both an interview show and a review show, The Cinephiliacs is rare in a Film podcast landscape too littered with nerd catering franchise news and speculation. Instead, each episode takes a deep dive into the film life of the interviewed guest. Labuza strikes a fine balance as host, well prepared, ready to engage, but also keen for his guest to speak. In the age of online film journalism, film culture can too often seem defined by petty disagreements, wars of words via Twitter, and scolding think pieces. This podcast often provides a glowing reminder of the ties that bind cinephiles together. Filmmaker Rian Johnson once called Filmspotting, the granddaddy of all Film podcasts, "a force for good in the universe." I can't confidently speak for the entirety of the universe, but in terms of the online cinephile community, Labuza's work here is certainly a force of good and one that deserves to be reckoned with.
