SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) – As the Giants play the Royals in the World Series, the San Francisco Police Department is reportedly investigating surveillance video involving pitcher Sergio Romo and his girlfriend following an encounter with officers last week.

Authorities said the investigation was prompted from an incident that took place near the intersection of Post and Taylor after the Giants won the National League Pennant Thursday night.

The pitcher, known for his slider and his catchphrase “that’s what’s up” apparently had a few choice words for San Francisco police.

According to a report from Matier and Ross with the San Francisco Chronicle, Romo allegedly received a text message from an ex-girlfriend and his current girlfriend became upset around 2 a.m. Friday. Police were called when someone saw a woman getting bear hugged and pushed into an SUV.

Witnesses who didn’t want to go on camera told KPIX 5 that the incident happened outside the Owl Tree Bar.

When officers arrived, they found Romo, his girlfriend, along with the pitcher’s brother and his girlfriend. While police forced them to sit on the curb as they sorted things out, Romo kept yelling to police, “You’re making a mistake.”

Eventually, everyone was released and no one was cited. But after SFPD found surveillance video, likely from Creperie Honey Honey across the street, Romo’s case has been handed over to special investigations out of an “abundance of caution.”

San Francisco police said they want to contact all parties involved again to make sure their stories are accurate.

Romo had previously been cited over an incident at the airport in Las Vegas in early 2013, no charges were filed.
