The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People plans to tap Cincinnati for its 2016 national convention if a site visit next month goes well, the Courier has learned.

Representatives of the NAACP plan to visit the city Nov. 5 through Nov. 7.

The NAACP convention is a major political event. In July 2008, both the Republican presidential nominee, John McCain, and the Democratic nominee, Barack Obama, spoke at it.

With Cleveland hosting the Republican National Convention in 2016 and Columbus still in the hunt for the Democratic National Convention, Ohio could be the nation's political epicenter that summer.

A Cincinnati delegation went to Las Vegas in July to make a pitch to host the convention. Baltimore, the organization's national headquarters, had believed it had the NAACP convention sewn up.
