Accused Pimp Gets $1-Million Bail
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A state court judge in Las Vegas set $1 million bail for an alleged pimp accused of torturing and beating a woman so severely she had a finger amputated and needed skin grafts.
Clark County District Court Judge Abbi Silver also called Tuesday for a hearing to determine the legitimate source of any money that 28-year-old Robert Sharpe III would post for release from jail pending trial on charges including kidnapping, assault and sex trafficking.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Sharpe’s appointed lawyer, Steven Lisk, called the bail amount excessive.
Prosecutor Marc Schifalacqua says Sharpe kept the woman captive for eight weeks before leaving her nearly dead June 30 near a Las Vegas hospital.
The woman told police she was beaten, burned and nearly drowned by waterboarding.
