SURPRISE, Ariz. (CBS Las Vegas) – Ethel Crescenzo has quite a story to tell. The 79-year-old Arizona woman was driving to her favorite casino in Scottsdale but got lost.

“Unfortunately, she headed in the wrong area, and she ended up in the desert,” her son George Crescenzo told KPHO-TV. “She ended up on a dirt road.”

He added his mother got out of her car when she came to a dead end, locked the vehicle and then lost the keys. Police stated that at some point she fell down an embankment and suffered cuts and bruises.

Ethel survived five days in the desert before being rescued. She is recovering at the hospital where she is being treated for dehydration.

“This is a miracle, because honestly – should she be here today?” George Crescenzo asked. “No. There’s no doubt, it’s a miracle.”
