Pittsburgh (CBS HOUSTON) – Costly turnovers, penalties and mental errors plagued the Houston Texans in their 30-23 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football.

Texans Head Coach Bill O’Brien alluded to the coaching and execution from players as being a collaborative issue. However, the players decided to point the proverbial finger at themselves as the ones needing to improve.

“This team is still surrounded by a lot of great leaders and it’s time for the leaders to step up,” Texans return man Danieal Manning, who had a costly muffed kick return, said. “We got to lead this team better.”

The awareness of their mistakes was a common theme in the post-game discussion. Players owned up to their mistakes including stars like Arian Foster. Foster, despite coming up with another 100-yard rushing performance, fumbled the ball late in the 1st half which led to a Steeler touchdown.

“We got to execute,” Arian Foster said. “Week in and week out we keep shooting ourselves in the foot. Good teams are going to capitalize on those mistakes.”

The team hasn’t been resting their hat on moral victories. While they have been proud of their ability to come back and keep games close, but being in close games is not the goal for this Texans team.

The Texans despite the meltdown in the second quarter, held the Steelers to just six second half points and lost by just one score. Defensive End JJ Watt was happy his team fought back, but without the win, it means nothing.

“I’m sick of saying that we did a good job of fighting back,”Watt said.  “We gotta stop giving the ball away, stop handing points away, we gotta just stop letting many points rack up in a short amount of time. We’ve need to start play good disciplined football.
