MOYOCK, N.C. (AP) — Investigators in Currituck County have identified a man who they say drove his burning pickup into a Moyock law firm.

Area media outlets report Sheriff Susan Johnson said 56-year-old Alan Boyd Lanier of Amelia Courthouse, Virginia, drove his pickup into the front doors of The Twiford Law Firm in Moyock late last Friday afternoon. The building was empty at the time. Lanier died at the scene.

Johnson said investigators found several propane tanks, 30 gallons of gas in the truck bed and 10 gallons of gas in the cab. She said the device didn’t detonate.

The sheriff said agents with the State Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives continue to search for a motive.
