An 8-Second Song of White Noise from Taylor Swift Topped the Canadian iTunes Chart

The world is hungry for Taylor Swift‘s new album — especially in Canada, where they’re so eager to hear the country-gone-pop-star’s new songs that one of them consisting solely of white noise topped iTunes.

N0, Swift hasn’t gotten into performance art — or noise music, for that matter. The whole incident turned out to be a “glitch,” according to The Independent, that led iTunes to post for sale an eight-second Taylor Swift song of nothingness called “Track 3.”

Fans saw the new track offered as part of her upcoming 1989 album and acted fast — so fast that they didn’t even preview the song. The immediate response rocketed “Track 3″ to the top of the charts in Canada.

This marks Apple’s second music PR debacle in the past month or so, as it follows U2‘s invasive Songs of Innocence release on iCloud — for which the band has since apologized.

Apple and Swift have yet to comment but thoughts go out to the person behind the glitch.

Taylor Swift fans at least won’t have to wait much longer to hear the next single from 1989, which will follow up “Out of the Woods,” “Welcome to New York,” and “Shake It Off.” Swift has promised she’ll perform new tracks at CBS Radio’s We Can Survive Benefit this Friday night in Hollywood, Calif.

1989 is out Oct. 27.
