As part of its $175 million purchase of Integrated Medical Systems earlier this year, Cleveland-based Steris Corp. will be relocating its global specialty services headquarters to Birmingham.

The former U.S. Pipe building, which IMS bought before being acquired by Steris, will house the headquarters and KPS Group will lead up the renovations for the facilities, which will cost about $8 million and be finished in the early months of 2016.

Steris Corp. CEO Walt Rosebrough said IMS is one of five other acquisitions that his company has recently made and he said his company chose Birmingham as the headquarters for the specialty services branch over other locations due to its attractive employment climate.

"The job creation climate of acquiring IMS and renovating the U.S. Pipe building were big pulls in our decision to come to Birmingham," he said. "This investment will help IMS continue its leadership role, help us grow our business and help Steris continue to grow jobs in Alabama."

Steris Corp. will also be hiring 100 employees to staff the facility, as well as an additional 100 employees that will relocate from the IMS office in Homewood.
