Captain D's has opened the doors to its first corporate-owned store for the first time in 10 years.

Captain D's announced the location in June.

Located at 2259 Bessemer Rd. at Five Points West, the 2,789-square-foot restaurant is the former site of an Arby's.

The building went through a transformation, as Captain D's tested its new coastal design on the Birmingham location.

"We looked at several different areas around the country we operate in," said Michael Arrowsmith, CEO of Captain D's. "Birmingham was the best." Arrowsmith said Captain D's is not finished with Birmingham. The chain is currently exploring locations for franchise-owned stores and more corporate-owned locations.

"Our brand has always done well in Birmingham," Arrowsmith said. "We are actively looking for sites in Birmingham."
