If you took a pinch of Gallagher, mixed it with a cup of Ira Glass, and then added a dash or so of Paula Deen’s more polite southern sensibilities (while making sure there is absolutely no Guy Fieri cross-contamination, thank you very much), you’d whip up a pretty decent version of Food Network’s Alton Brown. The oft bow-tied Food Network star is an eloquent proponent of the inner workings of the kitchen—gleefully taking on food experiments and rigging up his own makeshift cooking appliances. His quirky kitchen antics and wacky sense of humor make the chef a born entertainer—and his willingness to get dirty (and to get his audience a little messy) gives his one-man shows a tangible quality you won’t find at most cooking presentations. Get geared up for minor food explosions, musical numbers, yeast sock puppets (!), and an evening with this culinary over-achiever during Alton Brown Live: The Edible Inevitable Tour, Sunday October 26.
