Matthew Chuang Biography.

‘Mr. Chuang’s filmmaking is imaginative, original, resourceful and witty. His style seems to be inspired by two different directors like Spike Jonze and Quentin Tarantino, but he manages to keep it personal.’ – Philip Noyce

‘Matthew Chuang is proving himself someone to watch. BRAILLE is an impressive, entertaining production, and signals the arrival of a new and exciting voice.’ – AINT IT COOL NEWS

‘BRAILLE shows Chuang has an excellent eye for a striking shot, understands the genre and can tell a story that takes unexpected turns with flashes of humour.’ – Garry Maddox, Sydney Morning Herald

While growing up in his parent's Taiwanese restaurant, Matthew joined the nearby kung fu academy. It is here where he gained an enthusiastic appreciation of Jackie Chan films and began jumping off buildings and bouncing off cars. He would spend his days visualising action sequences and fight scenes. Upon realising that he would never have the physical skill to pull off these stunts, it became apparent that behind the camera is where he really wanted to be.

Matthew’s short films and music videos have won several awards. Matthew was the first to shoot and direct the world’s first single-shot music video filmed in 3D. Matthew’s cinematography continues to win awards including Gold with the Australian Cinematographer’s Society.

Since venturing into Advertising, Matthew has created compelling and memorable work for clients such as Onitsuka Tiger, Jeep, Chrysler, SWANN and Kubota.

His strong cinematic approach to storytelling creates work that is visually striking and emotionally engaging. His approach is collaborative and as a Director/DOP he is able to fulfil the needs of contemporary advertising and content creation.
