Great Southern Bank has purchased a 20,000-square-foot building in Leawood to house its seventh Kansas City-area banking center.
Located at 11050 Roe Ave., the building was previously occupied by UMB Bank. After renovating the first floor of the building, Great Southern Bank intends to open a full-service retail banking center there by mid-June 2015. The first-floor space also will house Great Southern's Kansas City commercial lending group, which will relocate from Corporate Woods' Building 84, 10801 Mastin St. in Overland Park. Existing tenants in the upstairs space at 11050 Roe will remain, said Henry Heimsoth, Great Southern Bank's Kansas City market manager.
Based in Springfield, Mo., Great Southern Bank had been looking for some time for a new banking center location in the area when the UMB building recently became available through consolidation by that bank, Heimsoth said. Great Southern currently has two banking centers in Lee's Summit plus centers in De Soto, Olathe, Prairie Village and Spring Hill.
Mike Mayer, managing principal of Cassidy Turley's Kansas City office, was UMB's listing agent for the Leawood site, which is located at the corner of Roe Avenue and College Boulevard. Phil James of Colliers International represented Great Southern in the transaction. The building had been listed for $3.5 million.
