Women’s Health In Texas

aprilcoversmallJust when it looked like the 83rd Texas Legislative was winding down without much in the way dramatic clashes, a battle over abortion stoked the political fires in a big way. Orange and blue-clad protesters on both sides of the issue flooded the Capitol building. Sen. Wendy Davis (D-Fort Worth) pulled off an 11-hour filibuster that managed to delay the passing of an omnibus abortion bill that would prohibit any abortions after 20 weeks and require abortion clinics to meet the standards of ambulatory surgical centers. But the bill passed despite all the fervor from the opposition and now Gov. Rick Perry has signed it into law.
