RAWLINS, Robert "Bob" Robert "Bob" Rawlins, a 2014 Texas Golf Hall of Fame inductee, passed away on October 11, 2014 at the age of 85. A native Dallasite born in 1929, he took up golf in the 1950's and won several club titles. After a successful career in insurance and an impressive list of wins as an amateur golfer including the American Amateur Classic 1972 and 1982 and the U.S. Senior Amateur in 1984, he turned professional in 1987 and played for several years on the PGA Senior Tour. Recognized for his perfect grip and pure swing, he mentored many younger players over the years. He loved the challenge and the discipline of golf, but he truly valued the comradery and friendships made through golf. He is survived by Noni, his wife of 64 years, daughters Patti Rawlins and Kathi Teague, son-in-law Mike Teague, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He willed his body to UT Southwestern Medical School. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 4 6 PM, at Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas.
