MADDOX, Lewis Peneston Lewis Peneston Maddox, 86, passed away on Wednesday, October 1st, 2014 in Brownsville, Oregon due to complications from congestive heart failure. Lew was born on June 21, 1928 in Weatherford, TX to Steven and Lou Marie Maddox. He had a lifelong love of the outdoors, was a skilled wood worker, good fisherman and poker player, and a true blue Texan. Lew attained a business degree from TCU then briefly served in the Army. He worked for the Boy Scouts after serving in the Army. Lew left Scouts to work for the Southland Corporation where he advanced to a high level position, ultimately with the responsibility of establishing 7-Eleven stores in at least 42 countries. He travelled the world, and came back with fascinating stories. Through his travels he forged lasting friendships with people from many different countries. While working for Southland, Lew met a lovely woman, Judy K. Segrest. They were married June 29th, 1982. Upon Lew's retirement, he and Judy moved to their beautiful home on Lake Fork where they lived for many years with their door always open for friends and family to visit. Lew lost his wife of thirty years in 2012. After Judy passed, his declining health made it necessary for him to move to Oregon in 2013 so he could be closer to family. Lew's last months were happy ones living in a house by a river with his beloved dog, Sadie, and having close contact with his son Jim, daughter in law Janet, and daughter Patricia. He was a charming man with a unique and pleasantly dry sense of humor and he was greatly loved by family and friends. Lew is survived by his children, David Maddox, Jim Maddox, Patricia Johnson and their spouses; son, Tom Maddox; step sons, Michael and Todd Segrest and their spouses, numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life is planned for the spring or early summer of 2015 in Texas. Lew's ashes will be interred at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, TX next to his "greatest love", Judy, whom he dearly missed. Fisher Funeral Home in Albany, Oregon is handling arrangements.
