One of the things (there are many) that bugs the oil and gas industry about the continuing controversy over hydraulic fracturing is the assertion that it's some sort of new, untried technology. The American Petroleum Institute's latest effort to counter that perception is a birthday party for fracking, tied to to the technique's 65th birthday today. (According to API, Halliburton Co. fractured two commercial wells, one in Texas and one in Oklahoma, on March 17, 1949.) There's a report on the party at the Houston Chronicle's FuelFix.
