Whiskey 7, the National Warplane Museum's famous C-47 aircraft that flew in the D-Day invasion of World War Ii, will arrive Wednesday afternoon at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
The airplane recently took part in the Geneso, New York-based museum's monthlong European tour in June as part of its Return to Normandy mission to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the invasion, the museum said.
The plane is expected to be positioned at Ramp 5 at D/FW Airport, organizers said.
During its visit to DFW, Whiskey 7 also will be put on the static display at the American Airlines-sponsored Sky Ball, an event at D/FW Airport in support of the Airpower Foundation which honors all members of the U.S. military services, veterans and their families. The event is Saturday at the airport. For the past 12 years, Sky Ball has helped raise funds to help members of the military, veterans and their families.
This year's even will honor the United States Navy and veterans who served in Korea.
On Saturday, the plane will make a VIP flight from D/FW Airport to the Frontiers of Flight Museum at Dallas Love Field at about 9:15 a.m., organizers said.
From 12-3 on Sunday, the plane will be on display at Ramp 5 at D/FW Airport for veterans to tour the aircraft.
