J53 Pratt & Whitney engine

On April 15, 1952, a prototype Boeing B-52 Air Force bomber first flew with eight Pratt & Whitney J57 turbojets, each producing 10,000 pounds of thrust. The J57 was an immediate success. In 1952, the engine won the Collier Trophy, one of aviation's most prestigious awards, for "the greatest achievement in aviation in America."
